The situation:

In a Spanish city, Pigeons flock together in abundance. The problem with these beautiful birds is that they cover the city in droppings. Animal Control Officers realising the birds needed to go looked to find a safe and inoffensive manner to remove them. The birds had to be captured in a way that would not be offensive to the many tourists and also the citizens of the city.

To create the right capture tool, several aspects needed to be considered.

  • Hand held

  • Gentle to birds

  • Cost Effective

  • Easy to reload

  • Low recoil

  • Portable

  • Birds must remain alive

The Solution:

Humane Capture Tool - Bird Capture 1A pigeon catcher was created specifically to provide a cost effective solution to this unique situation.

The tool needed to be gentle and safe for the birds and also easy and safe for animal control officers to use in sometimes congested areas.

For this project the capture tool was customised to spread a net out in a fan like manner. Weights were attached to the front causing the net to spread in a flattened arc, capturing the birds safely within.
